Hi all was wondering if any one has had this problem in the past.
My an 400 k7 has started to make a high pitched whining noise it only starts at about 4000rpm.but then gets higher and louder as i go through the rev range. Could this be a very bad sign or something silly.

The Old Lady makes a high pitched whining noise at about 4000 rpm, but that's another story...
When was the last full service, including all fluids, lubrication points, belt and rollers? How many miles do the belt and rollers have?

Im too dam ashamed of my self to go into that as she is nearly 4k over due for a service. Mainly due to lack of funds and xmass. But still i was starting to think that it might me a belt/roller thing. And or just needing to be serviced. But its been very wet and salty latly. Think im just gonna.have to.give her a bit of tlc.

Could be a wheel bearing. 400's of that age have been known to go through front ones at regular intervals.

The thing that gets me about that is that its very rev conected only seams to me noticable at 4k rpms now iv been doing a little reserch and along with a knocking noise its had for some time now it maybe a crank shaft bearing going. I hope not cos orwells are gonna be able buy a whole new shop for the cost of that one.
The sad thing is that i would lavish every penny i could on her, i love my burg, but the boss in this house, we will, call her bitch wife from hell, say and i quote "how come it needs to be serviced so much my car car dont, why do you need to put oil in it i dont need to put that much in my car, well its gonna have to wait". Well easy answer is your bloody car is a 1.6 ltr that revs at around 3500 rpm and you do about 20 miles a week my little .4 ltr engine revs at around 7500rpm and dose over 200 miles a week.
So i end up feeling like a twat when i do take it in cos the bloke in the shop well.if you looked after it a bit better mr aldridge i would not corse you so many problems. Rant over. Lol

Ask her how come her car gets stuck in traffic and uses so much fuel and why she has to pay for parking....

Did you make any progress on finding out what was causing this noise?

Yes front wheel bearing.

sadly at the mo she is off the road as some twat tryed to nick her from my drive, but the did get beaten off. But thay buggerd the ingnition barrel and scrached some of the pannels so she is away being repaird at the mo.
