Hi guys,long time no see.
Just completed some Yamaha new model training which included the 530 T-Max and the Xentor 125.

Some of you may be interested in some info on the 530.

Bore size up to 68 from 66 mm.
Improved cooling from re-designed cylinder head and cylinder.
Due to complaints of 'rattling variators' new model has 8 sliders over 4 from the older models.
Secondary sheeve (pulley) is now chrome plated.
Plastic! inlet manifolds.

A bit about the belt.
This runs very very tight with no discernable free-play at all.
There are no adjustment marks, however the ends of the swinging arm and the wheel adjustment blocks are machine finished to allow accurate measurment. The limit in difference is only 0.5 mm.If you get it wrong you will hear horrible noises from the belt!

The rear pulley is not round but pentaganol so therefore has to be placed in the right position to make adjustments to the belt.Imagine a line drawn through the centre of the front sprocket going through the centre of the rear wheel spindle. One of the pulley nuts needs to be on that line (in the 3 o'clock position looking from LHS) I hope you can understand that?

There is a special tool to measure the belt tension but it's not cheap! I reckon on £200 at least.Nice one Yamaha

The Xentor 125 looks interesting, sitting as it does between the Vity and the X-Max 125.It costs approx £3,000.
Be warned,it has bugger-all storage under the seat.Well maybe you can get your sandwiches under there.
For the first year you get free top-box and screen.
It has the Yamaha Unified braking system (linked brakes)

Interestingly, the Xentor 125 is one of the first units to take advantage of lap-top diagnosis as Yamaha are dropping the 'on-board' system due to costs I expect.

Maybe they asked Peugeot about how over the last 10yrs they have used the old Nintendo Gameboy and bespoke "game" cartridges?

To be honest Stephen, the in-built diag was so good there was no need to consider anything else. This is being done just to save money I'll bet.
As Dealers we now need to buy Laptops and the 'interface device' which I know isn't going to be cheap.
This includes a 'data-logging' unit which can be plugged in and record up to 8 hours of logs as the bike is used.A bit over the top I feel.

I have never used/seen the Gameboy device, what's it capable of?

Veering away from Gameboys to the belt drive....have you been briefed about how long the belt is supposed to last? In different places I've read that it 'might' last the life of the bike, but elsewhere that a life of 24,000 miles is expected. And how much would they cost to replace?

Why did they replace that perfectly sensible enclosed chain drive......? Just as BMW copied them? I'd be surprised if the belt is more efficient than the chain(s).

The Italian scoots ( Aprilia ) have used the Nintendo Gameboy for years, full Diag and tuning..
I think it was also used on a couple of the Italian big V twins too, but they would not admit to it
i saw it used at the dealers thou  My Suzuki Aprilia dealer was miffed when he had to buy the setup,
he was just told he had to have the tune up kit, THEN HE OPENED THE BOX....went of his rocker
when he saw what it was and what it cost

I'll try and get that info Mr Grumpy,I don't recall it coming up during the course. (either that or I was drifting off to sleep)

As for removing the chain system, there is certainly a weight saving exercise going on there I would have thought.

Thanks..weight saving of 4kg? If I laid off the pies and choccy biccies for a few weeks I could probably cut all up weight by 4kg!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up on the 530 Hughie.
My experience with belt rear drives goes back to three Harleys that I had over a period ( before enlightenment!), two of them suffered from small loose road chips getting caught up in the belt 'teeth'...we resurface roads here by spreading lots of tar then dumping on truck loads of loose 'gravillions' to be run-in by us !... necessitating belt replacement at around $450.00 belt + $450.00 labour.each time. The swing arm etc. have to be dropped to do the job.
Naturally, I say, bugger the 4kg, I'll take an enclosed chain any time.

Makes me feel that I want to forever hang on to my Black Max...now with Leo Vince & J.Costa.
