Linked brakes on 400.

Anyone know if the brakes on the latest 400 are linked or not? I mean the left lever operates the front and rear brakes rather than just the rear? My dealer reckons they aren't, but I have heard and read other accounts that say they are. They were on my last one, a 2006 K6 model. Anyone got one of the latest K9s who can help me out?

I do not believe they are on my 2010 and judging by the feel they certainly do not seem to be.

Indeed they are on the new 400z ABS model. They were also linked on the k9 I test rode last Tuesday. I'm pretty sure they are on all the Uk Burgmans now. But not in the USA from what I have read. That I believe, has been done away with for some reason, maybe because they don't like that system over there. I found it brilliant to use and the stopping power on the K9 was brutal if you wanted it to be. That was quite a nice surprise.

I don't know about the new ones but I have a L0 ZA (ABS equipped) and that doesn't have interlinked brakes.

Hi guys, I may then stand to be corrected on this linked thing then. You guys know this bike better than me. I've just checked the Suzuki brochure on the 400zABS and it doesn't mention wether the brakes are linked or not. I think I've read an online test somewhere that says they are, but that may not be a uk model. I'm sure the guy at the dealers said brakes were linked. And it did feel like the K9 I rode had linked brakes, that was a standard model without abs. It should be easy to check though as all you need to do is follow the brake line from the front brake down to the caliper. If it goes just to one caliper on the right hand side then the brakes are linked. If it splts between both front calipers, they are not linked, but you prolly all know that.

Put bike on center stand and rev it. Grab a fist full of front brake, does rear wheel rapidly decelerate ? in my case, no. ride in straight line, apply a modicum of rear brake. Any front end dive ? in my case, no. I would therefore postulate that the brakes on my 2010 are not linked. Riding the thing confirms this.

Conflicting messages then. I'll just have to see when I get it.

I think Geoff is right, they are not linked. I cannot find anything in the brochures about it and the guy at the shop was wrong. Therefore my post was incorrect in asserting they were linked. One thing Geoff, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the rear brake that operates just one of the front discs at the same time as the rear disc - if the bike has linked brakes. The front brake wont' have any effect on the rear wheel. So you would need to operate the rear brake to check that the brakes are linked or not and get someone to hold the bike with the front up and spin the front wheel. At least that was how it appeared to be on the earlier Burgman I saw with linked brakes.
