i checked it over myself as i sort of know what to check

all the lights were fine

vespa failed as one indicator wasnt working apparently i saw him check it and it worked fine

so had to pay 3 quid for a new bulb and a tenner to have it fitted before he would issue an mot

An MOT tester cannot do any work on a vehicle. A failure should have been recorded and a retest done after the failed item replaced. Three pounds for a 50 pence bulb is a total ripoff, how long did it take to replace it - a couple of minutes. Had the Ministry been watching him he could have lost his tester's ticket.
Next time, take it somewhere else.

Cheers,

My local car MOT centre decided my car's headlights needed adjusting and charged me for that after failing it for MOT a couple of years ago. I doubt it was wrong in the first place.

Then this year i took my current car to them and they failed it straight away giving me a list of 2 pages of failures to fix. They said it would cost at least 500-600 quid to fix (included stuff like welding, etc) for a £350 micra.

I then took it to my trusted mechanic who's 15 miles away and he fixed it up and mot'd it, throwing in a free rear tyre and jack (car didn't have one) for only £300 including the mot...

Hard not to get ripped off nowadays as everyone's after a quick profit.

Banks are raising mortgage rates on the news today although bank of england's kept the rate at 0.5 over 2 yrs now. This is after the rascals declared shameless bonuses as well... What a great nation we've become!

I recall some years ago taking my bike for an MOT. My wife followed me in the car, and i left it for an hour. When we went back he said the rear brake light wasn't working and had put a new one in that will be an extra pound please( this was in the 80's). My wife told him she had followed me for 5mls and the brake light was definately working. He then said sorry, i made a mistake it wasn't your bike,it was another bike. I saw the owner and told him what i thought of his business practices and i would make sure everyone else in the area knew. He went out of business about 6months later. ;)

Robbing bastards, youve definately been ripped off. My MOT tester lets me fix a fault using their tools and lift too, and then issues the pass. Im lucky they never chase work.

when i had my scoot mot'd last year i used a motor bike mechanic based in a back lane just run by two fellas. the mechanic checked my xmax over and passed it but showed me one brake light was out and sold me the bulb and i fitted it myself. you can get some decent garages / mechanics out there,, few and far between though
