Such a beautiful day for riding today. But was spoiled for me by a nasty slippery patch of moss/mud in the middle of the lane I was pulling into. Wheels slid out from under me and the bike hit the deck, pinning my foot underneath it. Managed to extract myself with some effort and thankfully nothing broken, just a few scrapes and (probably) bruises. The bike didn't fare so well; right-hand mirror broken off and the front cowling and other front panels scratched up pretty badly . On the plus side the back of the bike is completely unscathed bar some tiny scuffs on the top box.

Going to claim it on my insurance. I did check ebay for second-hand panels but nothing in my colour and I'd rather not wait around for some to come up, and at £382 for a replacement front cowling alone, buying new is not an option.

Pain in the arse, but as offs go, could have been worse. Just want the bike back in shape ASAP now.

Aw damn. Sorry to hear about your off. Your Max was a minter. As long as your pretty much unscathed is all that matters. Scooter can be fixed...

Glad your ok mate, I must admit i'm not looking forward to my first slip on the Tmax due the size, a 50 isn't that bad, but that doesn't weigh 200kgs plus.

I hope so. Apparently because it's an '02 bike they're sending an assessor out to look at the panel damage and (I guess) decide if it's worth repairing. I hope they don't write it off as I just spent way too much money on it's 20km service a couple of weeks ago and I really don't want another bike.

Sounds like a similar 'Off' to mine back in early Feb. Low speed, turning corner, 'cept mine was on ice not mud.
I hope your leg/foot are OK, I'm still limping but am riding again.

In the olden days before women were invented, they used to let you buy the scrap for a nominal sum, or let you keep it for nothing, and pay you off with a write off value.
The cost of putting in back on the road, may be far less for you than for them, and you could have a tidy sum left over.
I remember buying a Triumph 2000 for 350 quid off a mate, which got written off in the snow. Just a bit of bumper damage to be honest.
They paid me out £380 and charged me £15 for the scrap, which I then sold to a guy looking for one to do up, for £400. Good Christmas that was!

Tell me about it. I never understood how heavy these things actually are until now, after lifting one up off the deck unassisted (and with considerable foot pain). I just had to put my back up against it and then push/walk backwards until it was upright, then let it fall onto the side-stand on the other side (not forgetting to put the stand down beforehand of course ). Fortunately my foot didn't take the full weight of the bike due to the wide front, but it was still pinned under it pretty good. Now that I think about it, I guess the reason that rear panels aren't scratched is because my foot was between them and the ground.

That's interesting. Definitely something I'll have to look into if it comes to it. But really though, I don't care too much about being quids in; I just want my bike back in shape as quickly and with as little fuss as possible.
