B650 - stopper bolt required check

I don't wish to panic owners but as an ex-B650 owner who used to regularly trawl BUSA forum, as I suspect many others here do, I wanted to re-post this link on the subject of the "Stopper Bolt" issue.

This item doesn't appear in the Suzuki service schedule, but is a simple and clearly necessary check for any owner. It has a simple job to do in the Transmission and many owners inspect and note no real issue and refit, however some have had to change & there seems no consistent understanding why some get damaged while others don't.

The reason for posting this now is that many (me included) thought that by swapping the stopper bolt for the newer Suzuki part (apparently better hardened now) we could then rest easy. However this post suggests otherwise, so if you've yet to learn about this and take any action I suggest you do, unless your bike's mileage is say under 10k & then include it in your regular service plans.

A new stopper bolt is available, see LeDudes burgman transmission rebuild, it is in black metal and 2mm longer, thanks Martyn.

interesting but not owning a burgman would be interested to know what it does.

On the Burgman650 it stops a large bill from the dealers workshop. It holds the primary drum and stops it from turning. They are on revision 3, first one made of cheese, second one made of chocolate, this one is 2mm longer and is made of metal.

Dave - It looks like the newer bolt (black 020) is mated to a revised Primary Pulley, so wouldn't have thought it wise to fit to an older bike. Difficulty is understanding when they started using the newer design in manufacturing.

Just had a look at mine (AN650AL1 2011 model) & the bolt is black & marked with letter 'C' ( or maybe just an incomplete circle?). I'm sure my prevoius Burgman it was silver & marked with '9'.
Not sure what your reference to 020 means.

Sorry Les it's the difference in the part number, they change the last three digits. So the original part was 000, the first changed version (your silver with a 9) was 010 and the new/new black one is 020.

Be interested to know if they're on the L0, they weren't on the K9. (Unless they changed during the year)
