Before anyone says "i told you so" it wasnt me that doubted it.

Stripped the bike down today and took out and tested the thermostat.
good news! it failed.

had fun actually taking it all apart.

will order a new stat tonight and hopefully have the bike roadworthy again soon.

pain there a sealed unit. if not you could have took it out and tested it to see if it overheats

when my one went i tried riding a bit stopping letting it cool etc to get home.

it melted the little plastic impeller as well so best to check if it has overheated

And the culprit:

And yeah mottza I may just do that. Still needs a bit of work but as long as a new stat works out I'll be more inclined to finish the job.

Whilst you have the panelling off, why don't give it all a good clean, hammerite, grease bolts and check electrical connections.

If anybody has one of those duff thermostats hanging around, can i have it please???
I will try to get it apart and come up with and mod to reuse it, thermostats are cheap enough
and one WILL be available via one of the motor factors.
Was thinking of a top clamp like the exhaust ring on the header pipe, bottom one the same but with a
lump milled out so it will slot around the bottom pipe. The bottom pipe will need a some notch milling
in either side to locate the bottom clamp. All very do-able and somut to do on the mill and lathe...
Cheers. Lyn.

If it is a GO, i could do them on a send your old one to me and i will redo it...got to be worth a try if they
are daft money..Plus it will give an old retired grump git some thing to do..
