Dayglo Knobbers

What`s with all the knobbers wearing Dayglo Derek 'Please Don`t Knock Me Down' hiviz waistcoats/Saddo Sam Browne belts in so many Ride Reports??
I`ve long fancied meeting some MaxiMuppets for maxi scoot rides and travel but on seeing several photo reports I`m glad I haven`t done so and am increasingly less inclined to do so.

It`s not yet compulsory (if ever it will be) to wear reflective stuff in France (or anywhere else in Europe) and even then it only refers to REFLECTIVE MATERIAL OF 150 SQUARE CM and not radioactive knobber hiviz yellow jackets/belts,etc.

It`s not even been discussed here in UK.

So why are so many saddo knobbers wearing it ???

It won`t help a fecking bit in the case of so many inattentive car drivers who simply don`t LOOK before manoeuvring or who see it as a threat to their machismo if they have to give way to someone else,so don`t preach the safety bollox to me.

What it WILL do,with increasing amounts of knobbers donning it voluntarily,is to accelerate the day that it DOES become compulsory....as witnessed by the already increasing amount of comments about a rider`s contributory negligence by 'not making themselves more visible'....instead of acknowledging the fact that if another road user COULDN`T SEE an approaching motorcycle (never mind one piloted by an adult sized human body) then they shouldn`t be allowed to drive a motor vehicle.
It`s just shifting the onus on US to 'be seen' even though the majority of other road users don`t LOOK and don`t CARE.

Stop pandering to the HSE shite and bollox.
Drop the dayglo...stop looking like a knob.

I wear a HiViz H-belt because I want to help the drivers who are being attentive to see me more easily.

Surprised no ones come on here and told you to eff off or otherwise.

I sincerely hope you don't turn up on a ride with a attitude like that.

Hiviz especially in this damp, dull weather isnt a stupid idea.

Heh heh..it`s warming up...come on all you Dayglo Dereks, let`s hear it from you....

Why do you choose to look like a tit when you don`t have to???

Most Ride Reports look like a fecking builders convention rather than a bike ride.

I too am against state dictated compulsory shite, and if one day they try to make it compulsory, i'd be campaigning against it, purely because i hate being told how to live my own life. However i wear one myself and have seen some police checks from time to time who stop the bikers without one and giving advice that it's safer to wear one and also offering a free hi-vis bib.

I challenge you to commute in and out of london for a month and try to stay alive, or even stay without a scratch on your bike ;) Let's see how many close calls you'll get when wearing a bib and how many when not wearing.

I think it makes the rider more visible, as most biker clothing is made to look nice rather than to be seen easier.

That said, if EVERYONE who is not in a vehicle (car/bus/etc) starts wearing them one day, noone will notice them anymore. So we do need people like you who are against and not wearing it, so that when we wear them, there'd be more chance for us to be seen.

I wear Hi Viz because it does make a difference to my visability, especially on the motorway and in the dark/fog etc and if I'm riding with a pillion I want to be as visable as possible.

I also agree that it shouldn't be compulsary. And your attitude makes you sound like a bit of a dick.

Perhaps you'd like to go to a squid style ride out in shorts and flip flops?

I wear all black.... black boots, black motorcycle jeans and black leather jacket.... I have a headlight on (whether I like it or not) for my hi-vis contribution.

Should black cars be forced to have a compulsory day glo yellow stripe over the bonnet......
