T-Max XP500Y vs XP500A

I noticed some 2008+ models are called XP500A and some XP500Y.
Any idea what the letters A & Y mean in the end of the name?

not the answer you are looking for but why are some Mk1's tagged XP500 and some YP500?

Never heard of a YP500! Unless Yamaha toyed with calling it a Majesty 500 to begin with (Majs and X-Maxs are YP250s etc)

Now then....the A
might signify an ABS equipped scoot (if its 2008 scoots we are talking about).
Otherwise, there are quite a few TMax models through time, not just the Mk1-4 we know, corresponding roughly to model years. The service manuals have different sections for the different models. Not sure where the sequence started, but my 2004 mk2 was a XP500 (N) (or maybe (P), I can't quite remember). There were several mk1s with lower letter codes. Thus it seems quite possible that the Y is the model code for the 2008 version, though that implies that they left a lot of letters out between the mk2 and mk3!

Different! It does look as if the A might signify ABS, and the SP some other version. I've no clue what the SJs might be about, especially as there appears to be SJ031s for the 2004 and 2006 and 2007 models!

The SJ bit seems to be just part of the Vin/frame no.
My 08 reg Mk 2 frame no. begins with JYASJ0510000......
Some of the SJ031 's must have been forgotten. Sitting at the back of the warehouse for a year or two.

True, it does look like the A stands for ABS.
