Extended warranty?

As you may have read, my Baby Burger behaved itself until part of the fuel injection went west - bill £400. Luckily I had a warranty and got the money back....eventually. Now the dealer has rang me up trying to sell me a further year's warranty for £300. My gut reaction is that it isn't worth it, but any suggestions?

Definitely not. Most of that £400 would have been labour, so if you fixed it yourself if it happens again, it won't cost you £300, an that assumes it does it again within only a year which it probably won't.

Before I traded my 3.5 year old Vstrom 1000cc for my new Burgman, I was deliberating whether or not to get a after market warranty on the bike (I didn't in the end go for it due to the Burgman). I'm pretty busy these days and I don't get much spannering time so I tend to let the dealer do most things. So I phoned around and I found 'Warranty Direct' to be really good with there bike warranty. I was quoted just £169 for a whole years fully comprehensive warranty which included wear and tear items too. It was their Gold cover which at the time (Jan 2012) was the only level of cover they offered. If it failed an MOT the warranty also covered the item it failed on with almost no exceptions from what I remember. I would point out that the deal I was offered was a negotiated one. It started at £220 for the year, but after whining down the phone the price kept coming down. Incidentally, Warranty Direct are the market leaders for cars and bikes and have a superb reputation. You don't have to worry about them. Most of my family have WD covering there cars and bikes.

you must have felt i was writing a post asking about warranty direct if like you say warranty direct also covers bikes, it looks like a no brainer compared to some dealer's own warranty.

Interesting - so if I wanted to go that way (which I probably don't) there are cheaper options than the £300 the dealer was quoting.

btw I don't do spannering....I usually have trouble working out which end of a screwdriver is which....

Just out of interest I went on the site to see what a warranty for my Downtown would be, as my 2 years is up in September.
They won't touch it by the looks of it. Kymco is not even in their manufacturers listing. SYM's there though, which I would have thought was comparable....

Spike, I'd phone them buddy! They will call their underwriters to see if they can cover you I would think. I can't imagine there would be a problem. It can all be done over the phone if the site doesn't show your machine. It's worth a call to find out.

btw I don't do spannering....I usually have trouble working out which end of a screwdriver is which....
