Recently i've discovered a few old Honda scooters from the 80's that have caught my
interest. I'm just curious has anyone on here owned any of the following and what were
they like to own (performance, mpg, top speed, reliablility etc.)

CH125 spacy.
NH80 & NH125 2-strokes, believe they was called Lead's here?
Melody 50 & vision 50.

I know this may sound odd but I love the 80's styling of them, especially the Spacy
and it's pop up headlight and it's dash.

i had a spacy 250, which was fun fast and easy to work on, i think the design had something to do with battlestar galactica :D , the 125 has the pop up headlight, the engines are pretty bombproof the only problem with them was the exhaust manifolds had a tendency to crack.

An ex of mine had a red Melody 50, I had a quick shot on it for all of a few hundred yards and it was a hoot.

I had a 250 Spacy. A Jap import - it was very nice to ride, but the suspenders were very soft and so was a very bouncy ride...

I also found this brochure from the 80's on Flickr. What gets me is the specs of some.
Like the NH80, it prouces 6.6ps (so about 6.5hp) now my Tonik which is a modern 110
produces 6.8hp! Fair enough the NH80's a 2 stroke, but you know it's from nearly thirty
years ago!

Same with the Spacy 125 9.5hp which is now what quite a few modern 125's are getting. Plus
the spacy was liquid cooled, not many non-maxi 125's are even these days. Also I've seen
that these scooters are also a lot lighter than modern ones. NH125 was 86kg dry, my
tonik is 97kg dry!

I suppose these days though to lower emissions the engines end up being less powerful. Plus
modern scoots have much better storage, bigger wheels and better brakes.

I quite like the spacys 21st century looks claim and features claim!

They're funny wee things, my son had one that hauled my bulk to work a couple of times. There's a seized one on Gumtree for £150 down in Christchurch!

I heard that Melody's are quite bomb proof, there a video on youtube of some scrotes
needlessly wrecking one, the abuse it took was shocking! And it still worked... till they set it
alight!

I owned a few of these when you could buy them brand new ( giving away my age now ) I had a brand new Melody in '81 but although it was reliable I couldn't get any more than 28mph out of it, despite my weight at the time being about 8 stone !
I changed it for a Suzuki CS 50 Roadie which had a 2 stroke 3 speed automatic engine and was a rocket ship in comparison reaching the heady heights of 38mph :o The Roadie was one of my favourite scoots as it looked like a Vespa / Lambretta but it was 100% reliable and I also went on to own the 80cc version that would just about top 55mph.

Later in '86 I owned a Honda Vision 50 which was a much better scooter than the earlier Melody being smoother and a lot nippier.
I sold it to a mates sister who seized the engine after failing to top up the autolube despite me warning Her to do this each time she filled up with petrol
