No, not gunnery practice for armoured vehicles, but a thread to see how far a tank of petrol will usually take you.
In normal use how far will your scooter go before hitting reserve?
I'll start:
Honda PCX 125 110 miles
Tank range

Re: Tank range
depends on how I thrash it, but if I am being a good boy and conserving fuel about 150-160 miles but still have about 1/3 of a tank left as I generally only put in about 10-11 litres each go.

Mines improving all the time, mpg shot up last week and of course it's better when the weathers warmer.
I'm getting around 180 miles at the moment. Full details are in the Fuelly link in my sig.

Re: Tank range
Ludicrous isn't it, that scooters cant always go 200 miles before being needed to be refilled? A 220-mile range for a maxi should be mandatory. That would encourage the makers to focus on tank range not tank size, by making engines and machines more economical, seeing as how they have no interest in extending service intervals or making things last.
Any maxi scoot should be capable of at least 90mpg, and preferably 190mpg. It should be part of what makes it a scoot, not a penile-substitute weekend warrior toy.

Re: Tank range
To be fair mine did 210 miles on its second tank full and it isn't run in yet and the engine probably never got to full operating temperature in that week so I'm expecting a lot better mpg in the coming weeks.irev wrote:Ludicrous isn't it, that scooters cant always go 200 miles before being needed to be refilled? Have to disagree there your engine will be more efficient in cooler weather as colder air is much more dense therefore providing a bigger bang. If I'm sensible I can easily get 220-240miles from the nexus. Usually if I sit at 80mph when visiting my parents (183miles door to door) I'm left with one bar on the fuel gauge.

Re: Tank range
The S-wing 125 has a range of 200 miles, it uses fuel at a rate of 90-120 mpg.
The Burgman 650 has a range of 180, it uses fuel at 45-60 mpg.
So looking at those facts, if I use the 125, I get twice the distance for my money, but because of the smaller tank size I can travel little more between fill ups.
My CB250 has a 14 litre tank and can easy do 300 miles on a tank full which would be be same as my old Pan-Europeans on their 28 litre tanks.
If I'm touring I like to always have at least 100 miles left in the tank, you never know if the next garage is open (many times they have been closed for building works or gone out of business when I arrive).

I'll stand corrected there but I was really thinking of the engine being more efficient if it was running at the correct operating temperature something which it rarely does in the winter because my daily commute of 17 miles isn't enough to get it there. I'll keep filling in my Fuelly and see what happens.

On shorter trips the warmer weather makes a huge difference, as the fuel injection system isn't running on full advance for very long and you will get very reasonable mpg's. But on longer runs when the air is cooler, and after the injection system has started to deliver 'normal' mixture, cooler air makes the engine more efficient.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Re: Tank range
seem to be getting good range..did 100 miles from crossgates in wales to aberystwyth an back to crossgates at 60/70 mph and only had to put £6.51 back in to top it up for home run...don't know what fuel price was or how much fuel it was ...but it's roughly just over a gallon .

Good friends don't let you do stupids thing alone .
