I saw in another thread but didn't want to hijack it - that Meldrew had the top section of his Givi airflow fly off for the second time.

Sorry to hear that Meldrew, it sounds expensive and nasty if it catches you in the face or gives you a bit of a shock; and at the very least it must be bloody annoying.

Anyway, I checked mine to make sure it was secure and I can't budge it by hand. I check it whenever I wash the bike anyway to make sure the clamps haven't got out of adjustment and I make sure I don't get any type of polish anywhere near the rails. I have done motorway speeds into high headwinds and got bounced around in truck turbulence but my Givi hasn't budged while other people's have.
I had no problem with my previous one either (but that doesn't mean it won't happen to me in the future of course).

I was wondering why this should be.
There is one obvious difference, Meldrew has a Silverwing and I have a Burgman 400, so is it an issue with some airflow models and not others?
Have you had one that did/didn't fly, what bike was it on and what do you think the cause might be?

I have been having second thoughts about putting the Airflow screen on my Burgman. Not just because of what has happened again to Meldrew but also I wasn't 100 percent convinced at its maximum height it would eliminate the wind blast. However, after experimenting, I now believe, for me at least, I probably need Givi's tall touring screen which is about 30mm taller than the Airflow in its maximum extended position.

I have an airflow screen on my Tmax, but not the one Givi lists for it, which is pretty useless. You can buy the airflow bit of the screen as a spare (these are the same for all the specific screens) plus the mounting hardware for about £50. You then drill and fit these to the original screen. Works really, really well.

Roadrunner, i have the Givi Dt screen on my Silverwing,i did need to cut two inches off it so i could see over it, but there is nothing to fly off it as it is one peice. It all depends on your personal preference, i did consider the airflow, but i had already bought mine before i realised there was a choice. After Meldrew's near misses i think i'll stick with the one i have
