Interesting... I didn't realise so many U.S. states were "helmet free"
http://www.confused.com/news-views/blog ... tter01June
But as for....
"Here in the UK we've had a compulsory helmet law for so long - since 1973 - that there’s hardly a biker left alive who remembers what it was like in the old days of fly-ridden Brylcreem and severe cranial trauma."
I'm sure there must quite a lot on here.
I used to ride my Lambretta to school with no helmet early 70's and my hair was long and brylcreem free

I started motorcycling in June 1971 and mainly wore a helmet after hearing stories of how my Dad was knocked out and knocked off by a 'bird strike' at 60mph.
Like wearing a seat belt in the car, I just don't feel right unless I have a helmet on whilst riding.

I live in a state that has made helmets optional for folks over a certain age (I qualify) who have had a motorcycle license for a certain number of years (I qualify). That said, the ONLY time I ride without my helmet on is getting into my garage after I stop in the drive to raise the door. But I wear a three-quarter with a face shield, so I take a load of guff from the safety Nazis anyway.

The only time i have not worn a helmet is on my grandads farm riding around and it does feel great with the wind in your hair. But wearing a helmet on normal roads is a must as i have come off a few times and the helmet saved me a lot of times.
