Downtown .v. X10 (From MCN Tossers)

Post by SpikeOne »

Nice to see the Downtown compared so favourably with the X10, (as it often is with other machines).
So why is there still only 35 in the country?
No really; despite good reviews and a reasonable price, in best part of 2 years - only 35!

No stock in dealers, no demonstrators, no advertising, poor service interval, more expensive than Sym GTS.

Yes all of the above Im afraid, although from what Ive seen its better quality than the SYM. Wonder how well the X10 will sell here? My guess is its too stylish for British tastes

Well, apart from our differing takes on its Stylishness (or otherwise...) I can't help thinking that the 500 might do better here...if you are going to fork out £5K for a big scooter, you want to be able to blast down the outside lane of the M-way.. On the other hand, the Bev 350 ought to go well.

X10 isn't too stylish for me, I think it looks the mutts and if it proves to be reliable enough I will be having one.

Read in Dealer News that BMW are aiming for 200 sold units in year 1, reckon the X10 will surpass that!!

Never mind the UK, I reckon that could be BMW's global year 1 TGS sales.
You would have to be seriously off your head to buy one.

None of that was a bar to me getting one, I did the homework and went and found one to sit on.

However, in a way, the point's well made.
When I was looking, SYM would have been in my sights if there had a been any dealers, Piaggio certainly was, but rubbish local support.

The 6 month/6000 mile service interval could be a problem, but a) the services are so cheap that it's not really an issue, and b) I only do about 2000 miles per year anyway so any service interval it too close really. Once the warranty's out, I will do my own in line with the mileage, in which case it won't matter at all anymore.

And I still get a 70mpg, 90+ mph scooter ...(Not that I'd want to do that for long!) 8-)
