Do you / would you mix your tyres?

Hi guys,
My Citycom still has the original Maxxis brand tyres (the tread is still excellent) but the front is showing rubber perish cracks around the edge so I want to get it changed.
I spotted some good value tyres on
http://www.oponeo.co.uk/moto/110-70-16-tyres and there's only £2 difference between Maxxis and the Michelin CITY GRIP (which has many positive reviews) but I'm a wee bit concerned about mixing the tyres.
Would you recommend I stick with the same brand and type?
Thanks in advance...

Well personally I wouldn't mix brands of tyres, but I'm sure others may have different views.

If the rear is the original too how much longer would it last, perhaps best to change together?

I've mixed them - the ones on the X9s were different sizes front and rear to start with so would behave slightly differently anyway.

I have just mixed, old hoop on front 1/2 worn and just put a city grip on the rear, it rides great

It did cross my mind. I've had a really good look at the rear and it appears fine. The previous owner - who had only covered 3000 miles - had left it unused in his garage for 2 years and I suspect the front tyre had deflated.

i always mix em... always have right through my 10 years as a london despatch rider.... BUT.... always have a good one on the front...grippy..a good make.
and use a tough old boot on the rear..cheapo.. correct sizes and profiles of course.... id recommend the pirelli diablo scoot tyre on front...i have one on my x8 and it very stable and confidence inspiring...planted, especially in the wet....
if you are happier with a matched pair then go for that.... peace of mind etc..

anonstarter, if the front tyre is perished ,rather than worn, i would strongly recommend you change both tyres for your safety. Tyres perish over time if not used regularly. If it was me, i would change as soon as poss, no matter what tread is left on the "good" tyre.

I've never mixed tyres on a scooter but I have on big bikes and they worked fine. I ride hard too and never had a problem. You need to be sensible about it (the tyres you choose) try and choose similar compounds (your dealer will advise).
