Car oil in your scooter - ever been tempted?

Post by anonstarter »

Well 'oil' be damned

Have you put or been tempted to put car oil into your Scoot?

I spotted 4 litres of Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A1 Oil for half price - £15 at halfords and wondered...
(EDIT:) Tesco is currently offering 4 litre Carlube Triple R 5w30 and 10w40 Semi Synthetic engine oils for a mere £10!

It has been suggested that scooters should be fine. The reason they have motorcycle specific oil is because regular car oil has friction modifiers in it for fuel efficiency reasons. In motorcycles with oil bath clutches these friction modifiers can cause them to slip. However most scooters have external centrifugal clutches that would not be affected.

What d'ya think?

I've used "car" oil without a problem for some years.
I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face,
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place!

Yep, smear it all over the electrics to keep them from rusting....
