dave from northern ireland ....i ve been into big bikes for years , 1000cc ...last bike was a 2007 sv 650s which i gave to my son a couple months ago .. i down sized to a 650 cause my speeds where getting higher ...same started happening on the 650 as well....
well i missed biking once i let SV go, so i bought a 2002 piaggio x9 125 ...large and comfy...i was surprised at the speed ...75 mph on speedo...

i usually cruise at 60 ish...lol

i have a question , when it comes to a hill , it will drop 5 or so mph...i ve been reading about after market variators ...will they keep the speed from falling , by keeping the revs up

oh and i have a 1960 triumph tiger 500

any help be great with the hill problem ...and no i don t want a bigger scooter ..lol

Hiya, the different variator should raise the revs, so should (in theory ) help on hills, have you looked into after market rollers ? prob cheaper than variators, or go for a 250 scoot

Try slightly lighter than standard Dr Pulley rollers rather than the expense of a variator.

Hiya and welcome to the forum. Re keeping your speed up - I think you'll have to bear in mind that the X9 is a fairly heavy bike for a 125 engine, so a variator may help a bit, but whether it's worth paying the money on a 125 engine I don't know.

I think you might be asking too much of your 125.
75 mph with a few mph scrubbed off on hills sounds fairly respectable to me, not that I have ever messed with an X9 drive-train

Putting slightly lighter Dr Pulley sliders in place of the stock rollers helped acceleration and hill climbing noticeably on my Chinese 150. And I couldn't even see any wear on them after the same miles that I'd put on a set of rollers that had flat-spotted. Worth a try...
