Mersea Island (Essex) scooter rally, 31st August

We talked about this last year and I think a few were interested in going this year. Mersea 2011 was the first proper scooter rally I'd been to (you can't really include the few Great Yarmouth rallies as I didn't stay overnight) and no word of a lie it was one of the best weekends I'd ever had!
In the week leading up to the rally I thought do I really want to go?
Even on the ride down there I wasn't entirely convinced mainly because I was on a maxi scooter but also because although I was going down with a local scooter club I'd only ever spent a few hours with these blokes at local meets, never a whole weekend. Once we arrived and set up the tents the alcohol flowed and I was in heaven!
It's a massive site with many live bands, bars, food etc etc and essentially decent showers and toilets. The following day I thought I would be bored but the best part is just sitting around the tents having a chinwag. There was live music throughout the day plus a custom show. A few of us went for a ride around the island and found a pub to stop off at as well as the local Tesco to stock up on booze. That night there were even more live bands and a Darkside tent - dance music plus a silent disco.
So what I'm saying is if you don't think a scooter rally is really your thing give this one a try. Don't worry about being on a maxi scoot, there were a few there last year and hundreds of GTS's. One of the live bands this year are Dodgy, you might remember some of their hits: In A Room, Good Enough and Staying Out For The Summer.

I'll be going down on the Friday around lunchtime, it would be great to see a few Muppets there. If some of you are up for it you can all pitch your tents next to each other, whoever arrives first can leave plenty of space for the others to arrive...
