Re: scooter clothing
Depends what kind of weather and safety protection you want but you should be able to get a reasonable jacket and trousers for under £200 that will give both.

Re: scooter clothing
Joe Rocket mesh summer jacket plus long-sleeved Hi-Viz over-jacket, with Trespass thermals depending on temp.
Hood kevlar jeans with Knox knee/hip armour (with connecting Joe Rocket zip added)
Karrimor work boots (when I wasn't limited to 125 speeds I'd sometimes use my Daytona bike boots)
Racer unarmoured gloves (or if really hot kevlar-lined leather slash gloves - really comfy)
Two-piece Baleno golfing wet weather gear under the seat with spare gloves & Oxford snood.

Re: scooter clothing
I've had great service out of a 'Bullet Proof' Cordura jacket from my local bike shop. A quick Google gives results like this http://www.bikerparadise.com/acatalog/B ... thing.html. Australian Biker Kevlar lined jeans from ebay. Akito touring boots like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006542HZ6/r ... B006542HZ6 although the older model had a flat top which I preferred. Hein Gericke gloves.

Re: scooter clothing
Hein Gericke leather summer bike gear with protectors all around, bike boots and Held gloves
Vanucci leather bike gear with warm linner during the colder seasons fully equipped with protectors
Some of my scooter mates found it inappropriate to wear bike leathers on a scooter. But I was really glad I wore them when I crashed a week ago, lot of bruises on my left side but nothing broken or serious injuries

Re: scooter clothing
I reckon scooter accidents hurt as much as bike accidents. Purpose made stuff gives you armour and abrasion resistance plus things like waterproof pockets and air vents to make life comfortable.
I'm an arm and leg spender:
Knitted Kevlar shirt and long johns, thanks to Mr Grumpy ( or Meldrew?) for suggesting them.
Hood Jeans
Hein Gerricke Djerber textile jacket
Lindstrands boots
Even a Hit-air airbag vest in Hi-Vis
For very hot weather, a Hein Gerricke airstream mesh suit
My jackets don't scream "biker". The Djerba in particular can pass for civilian clothes and I often get " nice jacket, where is that from".

Holly crap guys. Now I feel bad.
I only got a pair of ultra thin and breathable Sparco gloves, and an old Spool jacket. Relatively good protection but it's like 10 years old and not even waterproof anymore. lol
