On Sunday 15/7/12 my son in law and i went on my Yorkshire run, he hasn't been out for a while and wanted a nice long run( this run is 150-165mls). When we stopped at Dick Turpins, on the A59, for a cuppa i heard the sound of two strokes. Sure enough a group of about 8 scooters passed, followed by a least 25 more. I don't know where they came from or where they were going but, hats off to them they were out and riding. Anyone out on Sunday must agree it was a perfect day for riding and we got back home about 5pm with big grins and bigger appetites a very enjoyable day :)

Me and the Mrs saw loads of Trads around Ackworth in West Yorkshire. Going in the opposite direction to us but they looked fine. That Two Stroke smell took me right back. Thats when I got it actually running of course.

I saw 3 on Saturday near Northallerton. The stench was amazing - even going the opposite way at 70mph!

I bought myself a trad scoot again last year ( LML 125 2 stroke ) after a couple of decades riding around on 4 stroke auto's.
After a few initial teething problems it seems to be running ok and I'v been out on a couple of runs with the local scooter club.
Riding into my home town with around 300 other scooters in a haze of 2 stroke smoke was a brilliant experience & took me right back to the 80's when I had a vespa px125e :D .
Being honest a modern 4 stroke auto scooter is much better for commuting or touring on, especially if Its your only form of transport but as a hobby a 2 stoke trad style scooter is a great option.

A maxi riding buddy hosts an honest-to-goodness moped ride every year - 50 peds cruising 65 miles through hilly country with lots of blue smoke and parts falling off all over the place. A pickup with a trailer picks up the broke ones and hands out loaners. Folks come from 100s of miles away, including guys whose main rides are big bikes - Harleys.

The Burgers belong to me and a buddy who ride herd, blocking at intersections and such - illegal but so what?

Rest stop...

Yep, almost definite that any Vespa or Lambretta seen on Sunday with luggage was going home from Lincoln showground. There were over 3000 there - and I reckon I was the only one on a Burgman :)

All those mopeds take me back. To 1975/6 to be precise when I had a Puch Maxi. Ah happy days! Wow! That ages me!
