Silverwing Variator.

Hi,
What are the advantages of changing the variator on my 600 Silverwing.Is this something worth changing? Does it lower the revs or raise them for more acceleration? What is the best one to go for and where is the best place to get one?

Most aftermarket variators allow more revs to be used to allow better acceleration, both from rest and in mid range. Obviously it has no real effect at high speeds. The original burgmans were very stodgy off the line, and the Tmax is rather stodgy around 30mph, so these can benefit from a new variator.
An after market variator is supposed to be more efficient, but I suspect the gains aren't huge.
Whether its worth it is up to you! I don't know much about the 'wing. Do you feel that you need better acceleration, or are there any flat spots with the standard setup?
The biggest name is Malossi (there is a Malossi online store), and can be fitted by most skilled mechanics. There are also Malossi tuning places. There are other makers, notably Polini

Again I'm no Silverwing expert, but rather than a complete variator change I know several on here have "upgraded" just the rollers to the Dr Pulley sliders and seen positive (and far cheaper) results.

I completely understand the desire to tinker but I'm not convinced of the cost/benefit of most mods. However, I'm a believer in Dr. Pulleys as the one worthwhile performance enhancing variator mod. In every scoot I've owned, they show significantly less wear over time than standard rollers and have improved acceleration off the line. From a cost/benefit standpoint, they can't be beat.

I've had my Silverwing for just over 2years now, and as Meldrew says, don't be tempted to mess about fitting all these so called "improvements". I would agree with mightbesane though as i have now done just over 21,000mls, and i intend to fit Dr Pulley sliders when i do the service at 24,000mls. I will also check on the new Belt i fitted at 16,000mls, and of course change the oil and air filters, oil, and final drive oil. If it needs new brake pads i will change them along with the Brake fluid. Just enjoy the bike, Mr Honda did a good job and it is fine as it is. :)

+1. Seems to me Honda got it right with the Silver Wing (except for the OEM screen!), so no need to fiddle. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I had a J Costa Fitted to my Silverwing and it really pepped up the performance, but it didn't do anything for fuel economy!
I have the Jcosta Variator I removed somewhere.
