Planing to change the Avon Viper's on the Burgman 400 they are new tyres but they just don't
feel right especially in the wet. Pirelli Diablo are my tyre of choice on the GP but what I'm
after for the Burg is a tyre that's noted for it's grip in the wet above anything else as this is when
I do most of my riding on it. Thanks in anticipation.

Mine has Bridgestone Hoops, they are very very good in all weathers.

Continental twists are pretty good as well as the pirelli's

Second that - B.stone Hoops are very good in the wet. Still, almost anything is better than the Avons!!!!!

Michelin City Grips for me.

Strange thing to say, I ran my last 2 bikes 60k miles year round with Avon Storms which were significantly better than the Bridgestone BT020/021s I had previously.
Tyre snobbery?

Either Michelin City Grip (as suggested) or Michelin Pilot Sport if they're available in your sizes.

My winter bike, or the one i use most in winter, is a Burgman 400. 2000 reg. a lot smaller than the modern version i think but, i fitted City Grips front and rear and i think most will agree, we had a wet winter. I never had a moments problem with them, especially when banked over. Highly recommended.

Not necessarily. Avon DO make some decent tyres - the bike tyres made in the UK anyway, which I guess the Storms were. Snag is their scooter tyres are made somewhere in the Far East, with very low quality manufacturing standards (in my experience) and poor performance.
