Coming back home today, approached a small roundabout which you can usually take about 30mph or so, tyres only about 200 miles old (tyre man said take it easy for the first 100 so i did!)
I took the roundabout aiming to go straight and by midway something very scary happened. It all happened in a split second so not only did i have no time to react, i didn't even have time to have any adrenaline rush. Mid way through the turn, i felt the tyres give away, bike slid a bit and lean angle increased, scraping sound from centre stand (not the left side which is closer to the ground, it's the right side) and it corrected itself as soon as it scraped. Continued my way thinking it was my lucky day...
If i had time to react, it might have been much worse as i'd have tried to counteract someway and might have panicked causing a disaster. Sometimes no action can be the best action...

Re: Brown pants moment
Just got two new tyres myself so after reading that I'll definitely be taking it easy for the next couple of hundred miles. Thanks for the reminder.
Out of interest, what brand of tyre did you go for?

bridgestones, i paid a bit more premium over the alternative continentals as i didn't read much good reviews about those. Plus the old ones were bridgestones too and i was quite happy with them as well.
Poldark, it could have been as that roundabout is notorious. a year or two ago another biker slid just in front of me but his wasn't so lucky as mine. In his disadvantage, it was raining as well and it definitely was a big puddle of diesel.

It's horrible, that feeling you get when your world drops out from under you.
Like stepping off a kerb when you're not expecting it...
'Twas Lucky you stayed 'shiny side up'.

Re: Brown pants moment
I always read reviews about tmax raving about its cornering qualities and usually reporters define its handling as "You'll run out of talent before you discover its boundaries" therefore i was courageous when cornering. I guess "talent" is a very broad term

Diesel <Shudder> 'Prolly right...
Had a face plant going round the IMAX R'bout @ waterloo on the old Speedfight, it happened that quick, i was still holding on to the bars!
Used to try and get it well over, to get the revs up, ready for the run across waterloo bridge... 100cc two stoke - corner speed is everything!

Re: Brown pants moment
My only proper brown trouser moment, and off, was going around a corner only to see a car on-coming wide on my side
I was lent right over, so only options were try and flatten my corner (parked cars), head straight off, keep around and hope he pulled into his lane... i chose running straight(ish) ahead to avoid insurance on other cars and hitting him. He was very apologetic, and taught me to take corners a little easier and in the middle to give me more wiggle room.
Of course in London i've had lots of minor poos, but thats day-to-day normal commuting in our fine capitol
@Thirdabusa: glad you're ok, which roundabout, come-on give us the google stalker-map!
