Honda Wave 110i

Post by Greg »

Any one got any idea what license is required to ride this machine.

Looking at various Honda dealers on line some have it listed as twist n go others semi auto ?

Any help would be appreciated.

If there is no clutch lever or other way to manually control the clutch (which there isn't as far as I can see) you can ride it on an auto only licence or on a provisional licence with CBT.

With this model it's a new design on the old Cubs. It has no clutch lever but you still have to manually select the gears with your left foot with a forward and back movement.
There has been some debates about these types of bike, lately like the Honda NC700X DCT (Auto and with manual tiptronic change)
Some say it's a full Automatic as there is no clutch lever? I think someone called the DVLA and also Honda in a previous post about this?
I have a Burgman 650, I class this as an automatic as it has a seamless Drive mode and also tiptronic to manually change the gears but no clutch lever.
I would class this Wave as an Auto license only bike.

Here is the DVLA current A1\A2 license list, but the Wave is not listed. http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg ... 197021.pdf

Then you'll be fine as it has an auto clutch :)

It's basically a modern Cub/Innova, semi auto, with gears but without a user operated
clutch so it is rideable on an auto license.

I know though with a C90 you could press the gear pedal down and it would sort of act like a clutch
as the bike wouldn't change gear with the throttle open!

I had the Honda C50 Cub in 1971 and that was the same.
The gear didn't actually change until you lifted your foot up, so you could effectively double de-clutch, and smooth out the gear change, (especially coming down the box).
In those days, of course, there was no auto license for bikes, and you could take you test on the C50, (because it wasn't a moped!), and go for whatever you liked after that.
However, there was no point in taking a test in those days unless you wanted a big bike. You just renewed your 3 year provisional every 3 years and you could ride solo up to 250 forever.
I only took my test so that I could carry the ex wife on the back, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered, and even then I took it on a beaten up BSA Bantam D14/4.

I thought the permenant CBT thing only applied to 50cc "mopeds" with L plates on?
I don't think that applies in the UK on a 125! Although you can drive a tripod without either I understand...
