Good write up on the New E Concept Scooter today in MCN. I was a Guide on the Launch in July when the Olympics started and Loved it . Instant Torque and good range , and that was a Concept bike . Looks like the future if a good network of charging sites can be set up

Gosh - it says that apparently you can 'trickle along at walking pace' on it!!!!! Wow!!! That's obviously utterly impossible on any other bike or scooter.....

Also you have to be a little careful in the wet in winter as there’s that much instant torque.

Tsk tsk. You both forget that is a MCN piece.
They are used to very fast bikes with zero torque at low revs/speed. I'm surprised they even know what Winter is....

I guess this may be a serious point....after all, electric motors produce their max torque at zero speed (as I understand it), so I guess if you had a seriously powerful electric ptw, there must be a danger of losing traction at the traffic light drag race at times where road grip is reduced.
There again, there is always the on-board traction control.....when the tyre loses grip, we instinctively shut the throttle!!!

Yes to full torque at zero revs for a motor but:
On commercially bought electrics there is a controller box that determines how much current gets to the motor at a given speed. On a simple cheap one you can hear it cut in and out really quickly -making a humming noise.
They often have "jumper" switches to determine how much juice gets to the motor at lower speeds - if you are naughty and you know what you are doing you can easilly hot up the performance by changing the jumper slot.
Top speed is sometimes set by these jumpers too
On amateur builds the throttle is sometimes direct with no controller box - then you have to be careful - a handful of throttle means the bike is leaving without you
