Attempted nick ?

Hi

when out for a ride pulled up, went in to see my dad, came out, the ignition didn't work, the key just turned freely from lock pass on section and off section to the end freely.

Is this just a ignition lock fail or an attempted nick of my bike ?

Solo

PS good decent ignition switch for GY6 is 80.00 pounds :(

A good deterrant i think, is a disc lock with one of those cords that stretch from the lock to the handlebars. It is a highly visible thing that may let others know you do lock your bike. I have two , one for each bike and i always use them if i don't feel comfortable leaving the bike parked. They are reasonably priced and easy to carry.

If its an attempted Nick, the ignition barrel will have scratches where they jammed a tool in it.

Yes i got one of them cords on my disc lock and its got a big chain and lock on too...

Just spent 2 hrs taking panels off, and taken the ignition barrel off the bike, and taken to bits!!
I find the little rod inside is snapped in half :( so as i am typing this post i am metal welding the little rod to see if it will hold.

We could do with a welder like you. What with being able to type at the same time and all! :)

ha ha i wish i was that skilled but no wasn't not welding and typing at same time lol

But i did try to weld, and the metal used is so crap it wont weld it just snapped again. so need a new one.

I removed my ignition / key area, so i can use it for work still, so its now key less operation lol, The bike is not built with any kinda of kill switch nor an immobilize so with kick start the bike starts straight up and off i go, with no key to turn it off, i simply Trip the CDi and it turns off. Really need a new lock but most i see are expensive.

So as anyone can nick off it with it with no steering lock and ability to start up with no key, its got 4 chains and locks around front and back wheel, and the alarm on it and a disk lock! that should keep it safe.

A guy i used to know wired up 3-4 switches instead of the ignition barrel, all in a row and had to be all tripped in a set sequence, i.e 2 off and 2 on, but which 2 , he didn't get it nicked , its a cheaper option ?

You cannot weld whitemetal. Can you not make a new rod from mild steel?
Another option is to sleeve it with a length of copper tube heated and slid over then cooled and shrink fitted.
