The Inaugural Maxi-Scoot Rally - USA

Post by wisart »

The maxi-scoot.com forum had it's first rally. It was held at Steel Steeds Campground near Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Had a decent turnout of about thirty riders and even more guests of the riders. Pennsylvania is a beautiful area to ride with mountains and river valleys, the roads are in great shape for the most part and we had fairly good weather with the exception of one stormy day.

I made the trip from Boston, MA to the campground with my riding buddy Paul. Here is the photo journey.

An early morning start.

Image
Taking our time on the way in on some backroad highways.

Image
Found the Circle Museum.

Image
Some interesting sculptures.

Image
This eagle really stood out.

Image
Up the winding road to Hawk's Nest.

Image
It's a beautiful twisting road high above a river valley.

Image
Heading west on Hawk's Nest.

Image
A close-up of the road.  We had this area virtually all to ourselves, miles and miles of river riding.

Image
A one lane bridge to nowhere... well to two small settlements with no outlets.

Image
Dewey start to the Friday ride.

Image
Everyone getting their collective stuff together.

Image
Some of the bikes... I liked the stickers and meticulous pinstriping.

Image
Mimi and Allison hanging out by the Ninja.  Mimi got to be the first person I've taken for a ride on the Ninja, she did great.

Image
Our first stop at Hyner's View.

Image
The spectacular view.

Image
Looking in the other direction.  The road up was quite twisty and fun.

Image
Dave and I at the View.

Image
This time with Maggie.

Image
Me and my roomies Bill and Vicki.

Image
Gurock and I checking out the View.

Image
I call this one, "Dan and the Darts".  That's Mimi, me, Steve and Allison.

Image
Phil and I getting our photo taken somewhere arouncheer.

Image
I call this one Speedy-Petey.

Image
Our view at lunchtime.

Image
The next day the weather was far more threatening.

Image
Here is redeye holding back the storm clouds with a bit of help from Silverbullet.

Image
Steve took us to Centralia where the mines have been burning for years.  You can see the smoke coming up out of this vent.  It gets very warm if you keep your hand there too long.

Image
Of course Dave is king of the mountain and nobody can knock him down.

Image
Meanwhile back at the camp Stu applied one of his sweet vinyl graphics to the front fender of Maggie's ride.

Image
Me self photo-bombing the camp group shot.

Maggie down by the river.

Dave's SV bathed in the setting sun.

Paul's SilverWing has the guiding lights to lead us back home on Sunday.

Discovered this cool hot-rod while fueling up somewhere in Pennsylvania.

Image
Me fiddling around with the camera timer while waiting for Paul at some wayside on HWY 80 in Pennsylvania.

Image
A big special thank-you to my riding buddy Paul (mascoot), who not only made the trip enjoyable and stress free, he is also a pleasure just to be around.  No drama not even when the skies opened up and we were caught in a major storm shower in the middle of nowhere.

Paul's SilverWing is set-up very nicely, definitely more rider accommodations than a stock bike. He rides really well too, there were some really tight fast roads and he was whipping that bike around corners like nobody's business.

What he said ^^^.

When Maggie was down by the river, did she take some napalm with her, or is that an effect?

I just looked again, it's the sunset on the water....
I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face,
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place!
