License query

I've been on a restricted licence (not greater than 25KW) since October 2010 so in 2 weeks I will be able to ride any power of automated scoot/bike.

My query is, on my license at persent it indicates that I am restiricted up to 25KW, do I have to send my licence back to the DVLA to have this taken off or is automatically assumed that because it is over 2 years since I took my test the restriction no longer applies. I have looked on the gov website for info on this but I can't seem to find anything about it. :?

Thanks basil

Phone them - I did when my licence 'matured'.
I can't honestly remember what they said but the person I spoke to was helpful and knew what he was talking about.

Just found this on another m/c forum:

Once the two-year qualifying period has elapsed, you may ride any size motorcycle.
It is not necessary to have the restriction 25kw, removed from your licence.

However, if you wish to have the restriction removed then please fill in a D1 application form, (available from the Post Office® or from the DVLA ordering service at www.direct.gov.uk/motoring), applying for an exchange licence and return it to the Agency with your licence.

Please include a covering letter stating that you wish to have the two-year motorcycle restriction removed. A fee of £20.00 will be required.

and a following post:

Near enough exactly whats said here, but instead of doing a covering letter... in the D1 application form under the 'changes to license' section.. there is a little 'tick box' named 'Remove 25kw restriction' tick that and send it off..

either way it doesnt matter though, as the date you passed is on back of your license and anyone can work out two years on from a certain date lol! There is no need to change it..

yeah it is a two year restriction, so should automatically expire, so you don't HAVE to get a new licence. HOWEVER....if you have show your licence to one of PC Plod's lesser lights, your licence will say 'less than 25 kw' and you'll be riding something bigger. So you might wish to get it upgraded, maybe when you change something else. I'm sure DVLA will want £40 or more to change it.
I know I got the licence upgraded, probably when my points expired. Curiously I remember getting my fee back for some inexplicable reason, but I think I had to write off twice as it came back still showing the restriction the first time!!!!

It's the DVLA's way of getting more cash out of motorists, my paper license shows I have 9 points on it when infact they have all expired, but the DVLA want 30 odd quid (last time I looked) to remove them. It's up to you.

I'm still showing 6 points from 1992!
Couldn't see the point of spending the money...
