Not strictly a ride out but...

Post by Gerard C »

I don't know if this is of interest to anyone who's not in the Wakefield area and it's not strictly a ride out but it might put a smile on the face of anyone coming into the City from Junction 39 of the M1.

Turning towards the City from the motorway you will come to a roundabout locally known as the Red Kite. (There's a Pub on it called the - well guess).

Turn left at that roundabout. Then after about 300 metres at the next roundabout take a right turn.

Follow that road. Fantastic condition with slight cambers in your favour. Visibility fantastic, you can see what's coming - nothing. Pick your lines - the road twists and bends like a snake, you're not upright for more than a moment. After about a mile you come to another roundabout, shut off and let your speed drift away. Use positive steering to get around it and open up again. Again you can pick your line on bends not as exciting, but still good, then as you approach the next roundabout just keep an eye on the entrance to the Swan and Cygnet just in case. Lose your speed and rejoin the dual carriageway towards Wakefield.

Attempt to wipe the smile off your face. Short but very sweet. My ride to work. If your lucky and get this little treat - take care and don't blame me should your speed edge up a little. Mine never does.

Nice one Gerard, tried this out today. Perfect surface as you say, bit like a secret world where potholes and traffic don't exist for a few glorious minutes. Only fly in the ointment - I did it from Pugneys r/bt and arrived at Red Kite to discover road resurfacing and diversion back to Pugneys! Could still be riding the loop now.....

I got home to discover I'd lost a bar end weight. Where did you source that one you had to replace? Anyone?
