Tmax value query

Post by MrGrumpy »

C'mon all you muppet marketing experts....I need some advice!

I've spotted a 2012 mk4 Tmax on the web at a London dealer - not new, but only done 1300 miles (original elderly owner found the weight too much, apparently). Complete with hefty Givi topbox and heated grips. Far to far for me to go and look at it. They are asking £8K for it....is this a bit pricy? As has been pointed out, they haven't even taken the VAT off the price of a new one. They provisionally offered me £2700 for my 08 Tmax (with box, heated grips, pillion seat back, screen extension), 18k miles, FSH.
However, on a whim, I rang up a Yamaha dealer up my way who I've dealt with. He offered me a brand spanking new one for £8700 and offered me £3k for mine - so that would be only £400 more for a brand new one (though I'd need to add in heated grips & topbox, not necessarily Yam ones).

So opinions....is the Secondhand one overpriced? Is £2.7 or £3k a decent price on mine? Which might be the better deal?

PS, if anyone is interested in making me a better offer for my current TMax (with new tyres, front brake pads and just serviced, they can me!

Second Hand at £8000-£2700 PX = £5300 balance
New at £8700-£3000 PX = £5700 balance

Therefore £400 more to find to get brand new plus the grips and box.

If you can be bothered with time wasters, demo rides and so on I would sell it private.

I bought a Honda NC700X last week from a dealer.I got a good £800 discount on the bike off him plus a decent deal on extras.I sold him my TMax 2008 mark 3 version, 11500 miles on the clock.Okay it needed the 12000 mile service soon and needed new tyres.I checked Friday on their website to see if he had put it up for sale.He gave me £3050 for my tmax.Friday lunchtime my tmax was for sale at£4300.4pm Friday afternoon, it had gone!

Well, thats interesting. Mine is same bike but more miles, and your dealer offered practically same as mine (£3000)...thus the £2700 offer by the dealer with the secondhand Tmax looks a bit poor by comparison. So this is helpful - I think he'll have to seriously improve his offer to be worth considering.

I've no idea what Mk it is, but what would you pay and what do you think the dealer price is? :|
Presume it's a mk3 so I reckon £5400 ??

A similar one went at that price almost straight away, at a dealer near me a few weeks ago.
I would have considered it but stretched funds and having been diddled by dealer over a tyre, ruled it out.

Have you tried this 'formula'?

This machine is still under the official UK Yamaha warranty until 10/03/2014 and has done less than 2,200 miles! Delivery from ninety nine pounds., We probably have the best selection of clean used machines in Cumbria http://www.penrithmotorcycles.co.uk. £5,695

Maybe £3,000 trade-in or quick (!) private sale = COST TO CHANGE £2,695?

I've been keeping my eye on that one. It's been for sale a few months now and I could have sworn the price went to £5895 before C'mas but then came down again.
White's a bit overpowering though. But handy looking screen!

But these (and the other 2011 models) are mk3s - I've already got one of those! I'm looking for a mk4 (2012 model). There are an awful lot of very late model brand new 2011 mk3s and Tech-Maxs still for sale in many dealers.

This is the one I've been looking at (assuming the link works). It is a mk4, but very very black...
