Standard Mileage

Post by MrGrumpy »

In discussions with various dealers about the value of my Tmax, it emerges that my 2008 Tmax (ie between 4.5 and 5 years old) with 18,000 miles on is considered to have done high mileage !! Lets run that passed you again, an mileage of approx 4000 miles a year is considered high!!! Apparently bike dealers consider that 9000 miles or 2000 a year would be 'normal' !!
WTF???
I don't even commute on it, and it probably only gets used once or twice a week! Plus a couple of very low mileage tours a couple of times!
How the hell can anyone who has any passion for riding or for bikes in general, have a bike and only ride 2000 miles a year - Power Rangers excepted of course, but most of them are tw@ts!

No wonder my poor old mk2 Tmax which had done 30,000 miles in 3 years was considered by the insurance company to be worth little more than scrap value when it was written off, despite still feeling brand new!

They're fookers Grump's,
'Perceived Value' ol' boy! If you were buying your bike from them they might say it has 'less-than average' mileage!

I'm sure some of the local cafe power rangers are now down to 500 miles per year and only riding one month a year.
That low use makes our mileage high and gives the dealers a lever to give a stupid low value.

dealer bullshit mr grumpy , he's preparing you for the 'big one', which is to value it at half what you were expecting.

I think that's also why bikes still have pathetic service intervals, why increase the intervals when the majority do bugger all milage anyway.

Best thing to do would be to keep and enjoy your Tmax until it's old and got some proper high milage and then p/x it with the dealer, they'll still give you feck all for it but at least you'll have had your monies worth out of it.

Its the buyers that are fickle and dealers know they cant sell well used bikes easy .

Well...if he was to, he aint going to get a sale. Not that this particular dealer is likely to anyway!

Very true...but I'm too restless. I've had this Tmax for at least 3 years, which is some sort of record as it is!

18000miles is high?! For a 2 stroke 50 maybe but for a 500cc 4 stroke twin?! Wasn't
there a mk2 T-max with 92000miles going for £1250 recently?

 My Burgman is 21 months old and I've covered............4515 miles - 1900 of them in one week last year. Then again, it's not my daily commuter bike and I last rode it just over 3 months ago when I fitted a new rear tyre. I have got a trip to Lake Garda planned for July this year though so that'll be another couple of thousand miles. bouncing.gif
