Off to look at a MK1 Nexus 500 tomorrow. Any specific things to look out for when buying a Nexus?

have a good look around the whole bike, ask them to start it up, ask them questions like service history any previous problems & if your happy ask for all documents

yes previous 2 years work is important to find out what has been done, when oil and filters were changed and how often will give you idea of the owners attitude to detail.

check visually all aspects of scoot, most of frame is hidden, take a torch, one philips screw will remove one of the air flow vents below fuel cap which will allow you to view with torch the top of fuel pump area, for leaks and looking forward will show the radiator and front frame area. fork oil seals, with brakes on rock the front up and down a few times, as owner might have wiped any evidence of leaks, and you will be able to tell, if having a test ride check brakes , the rear is combined with front and the front should come on with extra lever force SMOOTHLY NOT JUTTERY, and no feel through the lever, the right front is independant, volts on dash should rise when riding to 14volts plus, if not suspect the voltage regulator will require changing soon, just use your judgement and if you find any work that needs attention,EG TYRES ARE £100 EACH!!!!! HAGGLE WITH THE SELLER AS THIS WILL REQUIRE ATTENTION AND COST
