Advice on a trip to Holland Wassenaar Region

I've finally managed to get the Mrs to agree to a foreign trip. A few days in Holland as an easy start. We are going to the Wassenaar area. Apparently its a very good touring region near the Haugue and not that far from Amsterdam. We are going over via Hull to Rotterdam. Does any one know the area? Any suggestions. I am thinking of riding into Amsterdam so what is the parking like? Anywhere to avoid?

We are going on the 14th May until the 19th May.

It depends on where in Amsterdam you are going?

If in the centre, there are two trains of thought; act like a local, and park wherever you like, or, act like a tourist, and get ripped off.
Which ever you decide to do, ALWAYS secure your bike/scoot, as there are a lot of scumbags who would have it away. Also, do not park anywhere near Dam Square, Damrak or Centraal Station.

Others have suggested the Park and Rides. Any opinions on security? Bike will be chained and with Disc Locks.

All I'll say is get the park and ride a leave the scoot near your hotel, a few years ago 2 lads had their Dragsters stollen from outside the Police staion in Amsterdam. The theives used dry ice and a lump hammer on the chains and padlocks/ :o

Bike and scooter theft is rife in Amsterdam, although most of the scooters are 50cc-150cc, so maxi-scoots tend to stick out a little more. Having said that, I would much rather take the park and ride option, than walk around in bike gear all day.

there use to be an indoor secure brommer(or however it's spelt) parking (pay a small fee but safer than leaving a scooter outside) at central station in Leiden don't know if its still there, then you could get the train into central station Amst'y etc without hassel of parking worrying about it gettin nicked/vandelised. Just make sure you can turn the alarm off, as mine use to go off from the vibrations from the trains, parking attendant was somewhat miffed when I got back from school ;-) !

Hi Jim

Thanks for asking. I had a problem with the Bike which was a bit of a worry. I have actually got a few pics and stuff so I will do a full report soon.

Hows the eyes OK now?
