The agony/luxury of choice - Bev 350 and XMAX 250 thoughts

Hello everyone

The warmer weather is accelerating my search for another scooter, and I have (currently) focused my search on a Yamaha XMAX 250 or a Piaggio Beverley 350.

I have ridden both and they are both great scooters. I am leaning towards the Beverley as it felt more compact and nimble around town, and seems a better buy with the larger engine and ABS.

I do have some concerns (possibly unfounded) about resale on the Piaggio. The XMAX is very tried and tested, and seems hugely popular and (based on prices in the usual places) seems to hold its value quite well.

Any thoughts much appreciated....

And me. A friend of mine got an Xmax 250 as a loaner when he wrote off his SH300. Said it was agricultural in comparison. Beverly is a nicer scooter than an SH300 to ride AND has much more storage; helmet can go under the seat for a start. I ride my BV in London and would say it is the perfect urban scooter. It's economical too, returning around 70mpg ridden hard.

The Bev looks the better scooter.....but the Xmax possibly the more dependable, and definitely has the better spare parts service!

As was reported here a while ago the Beverly 350ST has very expensive brake maintenance requirements.

If you're looking to buy new it might be worth waiting for the new Honda Forza to go on sale.

If you're worried about resale never buy new.

Hi

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, this is really useful.

I'll ask my local Piaggio dealer about the brake pump point and see what they say. Fair point on buying new, the Beverleys I have seen for sale seem to close to the new price to be worth it (but I have only been looking for a couple of weeks).

If you look on Bike Trader there's used Beverly 300s available for under three grand with hardly any miles on them at all.

I'm guessing that the X10 will have the same brake maintenance issue...?
