Why do we have to fix it??

Post by smeghead »

I have a Yamaha Majesty, great scooter except for wind buffeting, I have bought a Laminar lip in the hope that it cures the problem. Why do I need to? Why can't Yamaha simply put a screen on it that works in the first place, it can't be more expensive to make one that works can it? Previously I had a Bonneville and the seat was ridiculously hard and Triumph have the cheek to sell you a comfortable seat as a very expensive 'upgrade' just put a comfy seat on the fucking thing in the first place.

I know I am inviting people to disagree but my experience with BMW 'bikes is very positive. I owned a 2004 R1150R for 5 years, it had a tiny little fly screen which kept most of the wind at bay at well over the national speed limit, properly designed I guess. I rode it 240 miles one morning and was back home by 09:15 and no arse ache at all. I took a R1150RT out for a test run, it pissed it down and the missus and I were bone dry because the fairing and screen actually worked. If BMW can do it then everyone can.

Yamaha do seem bad at screens. The TMax mk1-2 screens were bad, the mk3's appalling, and the mk4s tolerable but still too loud at M-way speeds. I even recall reading that the screen on the FJR big tourer is bad as well. There again, others are as bad - the Silverwing screen was disliked by almost everyone, and I recently read a test of a new Suzuki Cruiser bike which described riding the bike above 65mph as like having your helmet continually being hit by a sledgehammer!

I didn't with the screen on my Maj either. There again, this was probably because a previous owner had thrown away the standard screen and fitted a big Givi one instead!!
