A Piaggio Hexagon 125 has come up for sale nearby. I've never owned/seen or ridden one so can anyone
who has please can you tell me what they're like - reliablility wise, performace and mpg wise etc?

Must be a 2 stroke engine though - later ones were 4 stroke. I've heard that Fuel Consumption can be spectacular! Spectacularly bad that is, especially if ridden enthusiastically (though with a 125 there isn't much choice)- into the 40s mpg??? I've read that their handling can be a bit....errm..exciting.

1994 it was introduced as 125 two stroke in 2001 they made a super hexagon 4 stroke ,a ex work mate of mine had a 125 2stroke hexagon he used for a 7t 8 mile trip to work each day ,he had no problems with it,its a piaggio engine ,i never heard complain about it ,
it might well be a good buy being its had one owner all those years

I'm not to familiar with the hexagon models but I now know that this is the 2-stroke model,
I presume it has the same engine as the runner 125 fx/dragster 125? So parts shouldn't be a
problem.

At the moment it's at £100, I'm keeping an eye on it to see how much it get's up to. I was thinking of
paying £250 maximum. It looks like it'll make a nice cheap 2nd run around if it doesn't go for to much.
Funny how the runner with the same engine typically fetch over a £1000 though. But then I presume
they handle better, look better and have bigger wheels.

I had one of those, same year. I bought it as a stop gap to get me through my bike test before the rules changed so did my test on it as well. I liked it a lot, it was very comfortable and practical, my wife liked riding pillion as she said it was cosy and comfortable with a good view as the passenger sits higher. The boot is cavernous and as the one you're interested in has a top box as well you'll be able to fit in loads of stuff. The tiny wheels can make it feel a bit top heavy and the fuel economy's not great but not terrible. The only problem I had with mine is the carb jets became clogged and needed a good soaking in carb cleaner to clean them out. The performance is good, I've owned three scoots with the piaggio 125 2 stroke engine and they were all generally reliable, I'd go for it if you can get it within your budget. Good luck.

That`s the same model and year as mine, which I`ve had from new. It`s a good comfortable scooter, and I`ve had very few problems with it. The bushes in the engine mountings can wear, but it`s a cheap and easy job to replace them. Mine is sometimes reluctant to start if it`s been unused for a while, but the solution is to ride more regularly! Good luck if you get it, I still enjoy mine.
