Knackered.

Post by DougL »

Just ridden my Vespa 300 430 miles from Cairnryan to London. M6 was blocked at Warrington (again) so headed over the Cat n Fiddle. My arse is so sore, I can't walk and my throttle hand has started to spasm in a weird way. Google says 8h32m, I did it in 10 with 4 fuel/food stops. Ouch. You can just about make out my Vespa in the front of the pic. (It's a 2010 with 4000km and I'm just about to sell it if anyone's interested)

Longest I have done is Flint in North Wales to Essex... think that was 3.5 hours with two fuel stops, can't imagine doing that much

Know the feeling. On my 250 I did 300 miles to llanberis in snowdonia a few weekends back. Not good having poor concentration on the mountain passes. Did that in 6hr 30 with 3 stops.

The Cat 'n' Fiddle wasn't super busy as I hit it about half past three. They have installed a 50mph limit plus average speed cameras, so I reckon all the weekend warriors go elsewhere. Views over Mancfester on the way up were amazing. I don't feel quite so bad today. It was partly in preparation for a trip to Barcelona on the BV in two weeks taking two days. Both of those are about 100 miles shorter days with google guesstimating about 5h30m which is three hours lower than this ride. That should be easily doable with the bigger wheeled stability and eleven more horses...

I actually couldn't ride it full throttle at the end on the motorway as it required too much concentration. I just snuck in behind a truck and for the last 50 miles from Cambridge to London on the M11, even the trucks were overtaking me. How I made it home in one piece, I will never know.

Going home I was fine. Normally tired after a day on the scooter, but I wasn't.

I had a lovely trip to the cat and fiddle a couple of years ago. I was really looking forward to the summit but when I got to Buxton it seems a little misty. By the time I arrived at the Macclesfield turn off there was fairly thick fog! I persevered to Macc, turned around and came back the same route. I saw very little as the fog was fairly thick at the top! Nice and clear back in Buxton and clear as a bell all the way back to Doncaster!
