A bit off topic...but there's a story in MCN today that owners of the new Honda CB500 'Bargain' bikes are finding that the service schedule says that they have to have a valve clearance check at the 600 mile service - costing around £300! Which must leave a very sour taste in the mouth.... A Honda PR drone pointed out that after that, you only need another valve clearance check at 16,000 miles (!) and produced a series of weazel words saying that its servicing costs were 'comparable to other bikes'.
I think I'll stick to the TMax where valve checks aren't until 24,000 miles!
Anyone know if the Honda NC700 engine is subject to the same nonsense?
(Makes changing Piaggio Bev Brake 'Pistons' seem perfectly reasonable!)

I insisted they check my valves at 600 service for no extra cost.
They quoted a first service price and the valves are right here on the service schedule what I have in my hand

Mind you, I'd already got them to throw the first service as part of the sales deal anyway. I think they were starting to get a bit pissed off with by that stage.

That seems a bit excessive if you ask me. May be they have had some problems and are playing safe. But actually checking the valves is easy and doesn't take very long. I wouldn't think many need any adjustment. Bucket and shims, which it has won't go out of adjustment at all normally. It's only if the valves need adjusting that the cost really comes into it I would have thought. The cams need lifting which is easy to do but does take a bit more time. That's the cost I would have thought.

My Honda CRF250L has got to have the valves checked at the 600 mile service.

Not my area of expertise (mechanical idiot), but someone from Dobles described the task as 'fiddly and time consuming' ....

Honda Thailand factory !!!! they must have forgot to check them at assembly.... i thought "quality and reliability" meant Durability

THE WORD from my Honda dealer was:::: NOT A MUST DO:::: Honda have asked the dealers to keep an eye on the valve as it is a totally new engine..IF vales need to be adjusted then go ahead at Honda's cost...So said MY dealer who i trust with my bike and my money PS; BIKE WAS IN THE SHOP 3HOURS so i assume they looked at the valves don't no on price because i only ever pay for the oil and filter on a first service with my dealer..
