It is handy having sideways valve stems but any 'over enthusiastic' air pressure checks or fillings can put undue strain on the stem.

Just had exactly the same thing on the Wing! Nearly home Sunday, things got a bit squirrely. I thought the front end was playing up, so I rang the my local spannerman, told me to take it round. Dropped Mrs B off at home, set off to the bike shop nice and steady,(1 mile away), halfway there it tried to chuck me off! Back tyre was nearly off the rim. Just been to pick it up, tells me the rear wheel right angle valve had gone. That's the second one I've had in over the last year, but the previous one only lost pressure very slowly, about 1psi a week. Trouble is, if you fitted a straight valve, it would be a struggle to get an airline on it. (Note to self - check valves regularly!!)

The Honda SWing rim will take the Ariete metal 'sideways' valve , they are pretty robust and lightweight alloy.

Thanks for that, I'll bear it in mind. Is there a UK stockist, 'cos all the ones I found on Google were in the States?

you could always just have a straight valve fitted, then use a 90 degree or 45 degree extension to your tyre inflator, they do them to either just stay there or detach and keep just for tyre inflation, under a fiver for two :D

Never leave a extension on. They can cause rapid deflation as I found out!
