I enjoy my TMax but I can't help not looking for other bikes. With the TMax being one of the best maxis, IMO, I'm looking into geared bikes I could replace it.

I'd like something to be as practical, easy to drive and more fun.

I'm looking into bikes 650cc-1200cc and as well as street bikes with some kind of wind protection for the long journeys.

Right now, I think I'd like a bike like the Suzuki weestrom. Small, light, travels comfortably and I can throw a pair of saddle bags to go grocery shopping. A shame I don't like the looks.

I'm also afraid that if I sold the TMax, I might regret it. Scooters are extremely practical after all. Although in a country of big displacement bikes it's tough owning a "Vespa" and not a "real bike".

Oh well. Anybody else dreaming of a bigger geared bike?

I Do,been riding scoots nearly 10 years now,have had a old Honda cb500,should have kept that.Rode a Suzuki 1250 Bandit,that has soo much grunt.Triumph 1050 Tiger,even more.Suzuki v-strom 650/Kawaski versys 650.B.W.M 650 Single,god did it rain.
But a big geared bike will have to wait.

I wish I'd tried all these bikes too. Other than the older weestrom I haven't really tried anything else I would consider owning.

My last three bikes before I was bitten by the Tmax bug were VFR800 vtec, TDM 900 & Fazer FZ1. The TDM 900 is a very underrated bike, the Fazer has a monumental motor and handles and the VFR a good all rounder and comfy for two. As an all round bike that covers all the bases for me I'm content with the Tmax, for me the mk4 adds all the bits the mk3 was missing. I ride the Tmax virtually every day, something I haven't done on a bike since before I passed my car test many years ago and of course I really enjoy it.

If you have a motorbike, you seem to have to ride it fast all the time. Or be seen as abit of a wuss.
With a scooter, you can poddle along in the slow lane or ride like a twat as you deem fit.

And if I didn't have the Tmax, I'd have another Tmax.
Or possibly, even go back to Vespas.

I sometimes wonder about bikes, but then find the only choice is something with manual gears, poor weather protection, no storage and chain drive, so I slap myself and tell myself not to be stupid!

Obviously the Honda N700X (shortly to be 750) ticks some of the boxes (storage, DCT box), and the Deauville had some storage (well panniers) and shaft drive, so that was always a possibility. But the N700 doesn't really give you much more than a Tmax - apart from money, though not so much of that when some essential options are added, and I remain to be convinced that weather protection will be reasonable, even with optional wind deflectors.

The bike I sometimes consider is the BMW F800ST (now GT). A reasonably sensible bike with decent but not silly amount of power, weather protection and belt drive - though I sometimes hear of complaints about reliability issues (something to with rear hubs especially) and insane prices quoted to replace the belt.

I was very close to buying a deauville before i found my current ride with only around 2700 miles at a great p/x deal. I'm still thinking of trying a deauville one day. I plan to keep the burgman for now and depending on job circumstances, i might change it for a deauville within the next year or two...

I think that a Triumph Street Triple might be my first bike. Everything I read about them seems extremely positive. It's light, quick and handles like a sportbike but you sit upright. No wind protection though. Bike have just awarded it No. 5 in their top 50 bikes. I wouldn't even look at any of the top 4 as they are less powerful than a BMW scoot or too heavy (BMW GS 1200 got first place )

Weight 184 kg, ABS, brilliant looks and noise. 106PS. What isn't there to like?

There are various storage options for it including SW Motech Blaze Panniers or an Alu-rac from the same company which will take one of the Givi boxes.

Well, thats the other approach (back to if money was no object!) a bike as a fun bike and sod the practicality! I'd probably be tempted by some sort of KTM Supermoto thingy, or even one of their new Duke 400s. They do sound fun, very light and 48bhp. There again, my garage is full of car, Tmax and baby Burger, so there is no more room!

The other bike I occasionally toy with is the KTM SMT touring supermoto - allegedly semi practical and very exciting to ride, but probably way OTT for me!
