My hands suffer from the cold so am looking for some good winter gloves. Something warm and waterproof. Have considered outdoor gloves but whilst they'd be warm, they wouldn't be as durable as motorcycle gloves?

Try some handlebar muffs - much more effective than warm gloves alone.
Or try heated gloves

On my Tmax last year I had heated grips with boxer muffs and only wore a pair of thin gloves because of the heat. I'm going to get some heated grips for my Mana.

My Klan heated touring gloves have been pretty good, although the outer layer is starting to wear after 3 years of using them far too much. Expensive but having ridden with them on a bike without fairings at 90mph (own private roads of course) when it's minus 8C for 200 miles, I know they're brilliant. However, I don't recommend you ride in these temperatures as the rest of you freezes & there's the danger of slipping on the ice.

The smart way to do it though is to get a pair of half decent "normal" winter gloves & use a touring screen that deflects the icy blast away from your hands.

Hein Gericke Pathan lobster claws are quite good.

I always buy my winter gloves a size bigger than I can squeeze into.

As it gets colder I wear another pair underneath depending on how cold it is, starting with thin glove liners, Ron Hill running gloves and then cheap "magic gloves", those very stretchy knit gloves from markets and cheapo shops- the stretch means they don't bulk up or slip so they are warm without being cumbersome/blocking feel and they don't soak up water

very true, i use oxford winter gloves one size too big and wear thin gloves underneath

Not sure if they are basically the same as the HG Pathan 5 finger gloves I bought last year or very different, but IMHO they are barely adequate for the spring, let alone winter!

The three digit design makes them warmer, I guess a lot depends on your cold tolerance, I have found them OK even in sub-zero conditions.
