As the title says, i'm fed up breaking poundshop pliers or cheap knockoff screwdrivers rusting away. Until recently the best thing i had was a small kamasa socket set which was alright until today when one of it's adapters broke.

So what i need is a decent quality socket/screwdriver/allen key/etc set which would be useful for tinkering about on my bike. Capability to handle weird and hard to reach bolts/nuts is a plus. Basically, the more variety of parts it has, the better.

Fire away your suggestions please!

Halfords pro toolkit for 99 quid, I have one and its a nice kit, half original price, a t handle allan key kit for around 8 quid, then a set of screwdrivers for a tenner, jobs a goodun, the rest is is an as and when affair, seems like I always need something new, star bits etc.

Quite a bit you may not need, imperial sockets etc, but very good for the price... Suits the needs of the Scooter, Motorbike and Car...
Newer version and is now £125 - The 120 piece may suit your needs @ £80 - Check the contents list...
The Pro screw drivers are also good for £15- they sometime do these free with the Synthetic oil...
Just keep em for the scoot rather than DIY, getting the lid of paint tins etc...

Added a breaker bar, Impact driver and a few more odds and sods over the years... Happy with the Halfords Pro stuff as a Hobby Mechanic...

i have a torque wrench but only use for drive pulley etc... as 20lb foot is normally around all other nuts etc and you just nip up for them...
then any special tools you need for your scoot

Maybe a bit below your budget but Amazon have a Draper toolkit that was £64.03 and is currently £32.53.

below budget is always good Thanks. I'll take a look. Thing is i don't really know what i'll need until i actually need the darn thing? Yesterday i was changing my rear brake pads and i realised my allen key for the slot to loosen them was too long so i had to take the caliper off first and then loosen the pads because my allen key didn't fit through the gap between the rear tyre and caliper.

Also on some occasions i require a longer nut or a similar tool which would fit in narrow gaps, etc... I just can't tell until i need them so the more coverage i have with a toolkit the better...

I have a Draper half inch drive metric socket set which I bought in 1982, it doesn't exactly look new but it all works perfectly.
Recently I bought a Halfords Pro small quarter inch drive metric socket set Linky and it is simply excellent, far better than the Draper kit.

I have a number of Halfords brand tools , and find them good DIY quality. The "Forge Steel" brand from Screwfix also seem to be good value for money. For scooter use, a 3/8 " drive socket set is your best bet, and depending on the type of fixings used on your scoot, Torx or Allen bits. Having worked in engineering for many years, I have built up a fairly comprehensive tool kit, but still find it necessary to buy or adapt tools for particular tasks.
