Hi Can anyone tell me how to pass my test on a 400cc sym maxsym scooter I have just rang a instructor who told me it has got to be over 46 horse power but I could pass my test on a geared bike. I dont want to go near a geared bike this new system is pathetic..arghh..

Assuming you're over 19 years of age, you can take your test on your 400cc auto bike and get an A2 license which will give you full entitlement to ride auto bikes up to 47bhp and a power-to-weight ratio of 0.26bhp.

This bike test is as clear as mud,I am glad I did mine when I did ,don't think I would bother to do in now.

Why do you need to have a powerful like for test lots of those bikes will sit all day at the legal 70mph,
i really cant cant understand the thinking behind it

You suspect wrong. The 400cc Max Sym is powerful enough for an A2 license, just not the fully unrestricted A license. The rules state:

A2 motorcycle licence: At age 19 or over, you take a test on a motorcycle without sidecar of at least 395 cc with a power output of at least 25 kW but not exceeding 35 kW. If you pass, you may ride any motorcycle not exceeding 35 kW and with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg.

thanks for your replies it is very frustrating just to find out none of the instructors I have rang have big scooters for you to learn on so if you dont have your own before you pass your test your stuffed .They are only interested in geared bikes for some strange reason.

When I did my test in 2010 I passed on a 125 Gilera Runner then 33bhp restriction for 2 years. Don't know about the 46bhp.

Indeed, the Sym just makes the 25 kW by 0.5 at 25.5kW and 399cc

Very strange indeed.
They could get people passed on autos then charge them a second time to do a geared licence.
