Thinking of a week+ to Portugal Sept/Oct/Nov 2014/15 as an outline/example,
Travel down to Ashford, night in Travel Lodge,Tunnel to France 4/5 hours traveling
hotel for the night, next day on to Portugal 3/4 days in Hotel/Camp/Apartment,similar
trip home.I know it's vague but just putting out a idea to see if there's any interest.

Don't know about anybody else at this stage but my missus is away to Bali next June 2014 but not me  :? . So I am looking to plan something between the 21st June to the 6th July. If there any chance of those dates then cool.....

Not for me I'm afraid.

But one suggestion, use Portsmouth to Le Havre overnight ferry rather than tunnel, saves on a Travelodge at Folkestone and nicer riding from Le Havre, plus you get to go over the Pont de Normandie (free).

Boat loads around 10pm, so you have all day to ride down to Portsmouth, either sleep in a quiet lounge (seat base padding velcros off to provide a "mattress") or pay the extra and share a 4-berth cabin. You get off at Le Havre for 8am and you're 200 miles further south and avoid the duller Northern ride.

Ferry to Spain Santandar or Bilbao is easier option 24hrs from portsmouth expensive yes but share a cabin saves overnight hotel plus fuel and tolls and wear and tear on scoot and tyres ect

Did you ever see that sailor again after you shared his cabin?

It is a fookin long way from Calais to Portugal though, even with the new motorway linking through to the Bordeaux route.
