Considering. A 300 to 400cc scoot...any suggestions...lot of motorway work....had couple of burg 400 but feel there in need of makeover

Hope you are feeling better Charles. One of the reasons I went for the Maxsym 400 was your view that having had a Burg 400 and an X10 the SYM was far superior. I would say you are right and like its owner my Max 400 gets better with age. Based on how pleased I am with the Maxsym and SYM in general I have a Maxsym 600 on order but I do feel a bit guilty about it because of the great machine the 400 is proving to be. Based on your health problems I would have thought the weight of the machine will have to be a major consideration for you! What about the new Sym Joymax?

Meldrew word of warning a few years back 6 of us rode up to the Midlands in dreadful heavy rain. We stopped at a motorway services just outside Oxford to dry out and warm up. Of all of us, the two guys with Rukka gear came off worse being soaked right down to their underware. One of the guys had just brought a brand new Rukka jacket and trousers and was furious and was going to try to get his money back. I was in my trusted Richa gear and was nice and dry.

Meldrew makes a very good point.
Which scooter suits you best will depend on your own personal preferences and circumstances.
Take convenience and quality of customer service at the supplying dealers.
Piaggio lose out for me because there isn't a dealer in my local city, nearest dealer is fifty miles away.
But for you it could be different.
Take equipment levels.
I simply will not tolerate kph speedos, so that rules out everything from Taiwan, Korea and Italy.
Again you may be different.
Next take cost.
For me it was important to select the cheapest overall option which will do the job I need.
With ABS, class leading engine design, electronics and service interval that meant Honda Forza.
But I'm a tightwad and only ever use it for a 54 mile round trip commute on fast A-roads.
No leisure use at all, for me its purely utility transport.
You might have deeper pockets and only use a scooter for weekend jollies.
From 5,000 miles riding through the winter I am happy with the Forza, it does everything I want, but I do not often ride above 65 mph.
Around 70 mph there is a slight buzzing vibration.
It doesn't bother me because it isn't at all intrusive.
Someone who sits for long distances at high speed might have an issue, or they might not.
There are Forza users in the USA who use them as long distance freeway blasters and are perfectly happy with them.
You may not be.
Then there's ergonoics.
I fit comfortably on a Forza but some people find the knee clearance inadequate.
So really it all boils down to doing your own research.
Get out there, visit the dealers, ask questions and do some test rides.

You might also want to be mindful of how it makes you feel when you're out on it. A Scoot that can inspire you! That's something that's a lot easier when you see it in the metal/Tupperware.
I've certainly noticed how much more 'inspired' GN2 has become after swapping his adequate PCX for the fabulous Forza!

Dropped my Satelis 250 off this morning for brake pads and MOT and the Pug dealer told me two things:
- he has 3 Metropolis in the showroom and can't get enough of them
- the Satelis 400 Mk2 is due in the UK imminently.

Could all be bull, but I thought I'd pass on what he said.

But I've already put my own order in for a J300 SE-ABS which should be ready next week for me. Unfortunately, next week I'm mostly in The Hauge so I may have to wait a few days more. Bugger.

If you are doing lots of M-way riding, then lots of power is pretty essential, especially with headwinds, and presumably for longish runs you'd want comfort. Thus, I wouldn't think the Forza would be the ticket - only 26bhp or something and its quite small. Similarly the J300, which looks like a great scooter, may not be the ideal for M-ways - bit small and only 30bhp. The X10 350 does have as much grunt as your Burgman 400, and is a decent sized scoot, and is I believe comfortable, so thats a contender. Not too sure about the Sym 400, but thats quite a 'Maxi' scoot so could be a suitable as well.
Wasn't there a 400cc Peugeot scoot coming out? Also worth considering Yamaha Xmax.
Or a Tmax.......(sorry couldn't resist it!)
