Hideous knocking noise

So I'm tooling into work this morning, steady 30 through the village and suddenly BANG BANG BANG. Sodding hell summats wrong wit' Maj. Pulled up and there's a piece of bungee rope hanging from the back tyre, embedded in by the hook. Bollocks I thought as I eased the bastard out, no hissing sounds, nice. Took the long way to work just in case and all seems well. Phew.

I don't know why but it's always the bike tyres in my life I have grief with. I had two brand new Fazers years ago, both needed new rear tyres at £120 a pop because of punctures, both were almost new, less than 200 miles on the clock. Same thing happened with my California, fortunately that was repairable. I've driven 100s of thousands of miles in cars and I can't ever remember changing a wheel!

My last rear lasted less than 500 miles.

I'd still have that tyre checked or changed after having a hook embedded in it!

Glad you are OK!

I'll have a better look at it later. I only do town speed getting the 4 miles home so I should be OK. It seemed to be only hooked in a few millimeters so I doubt there's any issues. Still plenty of rubber on the tyre.

I thought you were going to say something really horrible had happened.

On a muppet ride out I was sure I'd hit something - big bang, rear lower panel out of place but no debris ??
Long afterwards I found a knot of nylon string caught up in the panel fixings, the back wheel must have run over the loose end.

Glad to hear you weren't trailing engine bits. Like Globs said, I wouldn't trust that tyre anymore
