As some may have noticed I am changing my Burgman for another Burgman. In the process I am removing things like the Givi Screen, Pannier carriers and Top Box rack.
What annoys me is that when I've put the standard screen back on the difference it makes is amazing. I've gone through two Winters wearing just summer gloves and using the heated grips with the Givi screen. Here we are when the weathers warmed up quite a bit and with the standard screen back on - my hands are freezing.
Its going to cost me a significant amount to get another Givi and then the original screens in the loft until its that time again.
Why oh Why can't Suzuki alter the design of the original screen to incorporate the features of the Givi? It would cost them Bugger all and improve the all weather capability of the Bike by a huge amount.
I suppose its because they are so cheap to buy.
This reminds me of when I had a problem with the wheels corroding and the owner of the Dealer said it was my fault for using the Bike in the Winter. Heated Grips and Seat, adjustable screen - ineffective as it is don't make for a Winter riding machine then. Even his staff thought that was a weak stance to take. In the nd I got it sorted but the court case would have been interesting.
Rant over! Just been told the Bike is on its way to the Dealers!

Re: When you think about it
Yeah it is astonishing that, say, Yamaha cannot design a decent screen for the Tmax. They've had several goes, and whilst the mk4's is better, its still not brilliant. There again, as we've noticed on here, these things are very personal, and what's unbearable for someone might be fine for another. And of course, I suspect that the manufacturers make a lot of money on heated grips / top box racks / wind guards etc - after all, most of them will charge you £100 for a couple of little bits of plastic!
Regarding winter use - I had the exact same issue with the TMax centrestand. Whilst being a wet winter and less salty winter, the stand went rusty. Of course, the rural roads round here got like a quagmire, and the bike got covered in crap if you ride it for more than 1 mile! Yamaha tried to claim that I hadn't looked after it as I'd ridden in winter and may have not exhaustively cleaned every component after every ride! I pointed out that it had been ACF50'd and knowing that Tmax centrestands have developed a tendency to rust, I had specially paid attention to cleaning it. Had Yamaha not agreed, it would have been tempting to go down the consumer protection route, in that a scooter should be capable of being used all year round, and a centrestand is not fit for purpose if it rusts within 18 months, no matter what use you put it to, short of travelling exclusively over salt flats!

Re: When you think about it
Exactly my point with my dealer. With such well equipped and weather protected machines, how can it be argued that using them in Winter is not their purpose?

Re: When you think about it
To be fair I'd say the B400 screen has better aerodynamics than most. It appears to be one of the few scooters to have proper wind tunnel work done on the screen and fairing.
I'm not disagreeing, I fitted the Givi AF myself. Just saying they did a lot of work on it, but not the work we'd want them to do in this country.
As for winter riding, there is no way that car drivers would put up with the level of corrosion that bikes suffer from

I think its down to the fact that efficient screens don't look as nice as sleek looking ones on the showroom floor.I suppose its because they are so cheap to buy.
The standard screen fitted to the 2007+ Burgman 400 is dangerous IMOTo be fair I'd say the B400 screen has better aerodynamics than most.
It flexes so badly that it is scary, when you get upto speed the screen starts to bend towards the rider alarmingly

It does flutter at high speeds, that is what made me change it for the Givi (more rigid)

Re: When you think about it
Not just Suzuki - my SYM Joyride screen was hopeless and noisy - replaced by a large but brilliant Isotta, and the SYM GTS300 screen feeble and pathetic, replaced by a fantastic Isotta screen too.
Not I have warm body, hands and a quiet ride - been wearing summer gloves on oxford heated grips all winter.
I rode the Joyride with summer gloves on to a dealer to test a Burgman 400. My overriding memory of the Burgman test ride was one of freezing hands.
I have a Piaggio X10 on order with a fairly good screen but there is still no hand protection on it (too narrow) - so it might be a full Givi screen first thing on that too!!

Re: When you think about it
Ditto my Majesty, all the screen did was funnel air to my helmet causing buffeting. This was, in the main, cured by the fitment of a Laminar Lip. The Givi airflow screens seem to be universally liked so why a manufacturer can't make theirs similar is beyond me, it would only knock up the price a few quid and they could save that by not fitting useless trinkets like under seat lights.

Concern about this is why I am reluctant to fit a taller screen to my Forza.smeghead wrote:Ditto my Majesty, all the screen did was funnel air to my helmet causing buffeting.
You only find out if the screen suits after buying and using it.
