rear-brake lock-up on the Tmax 530?

Reviewers have mentioned that Yamaha went a bit OVERBOARD with that HUGE rear rotor on the 530, and say it will lock up easily under hard braking. (non-ABS, obviously...)
Guess what? They are right, my brother's 530 would do that. UNTIL we FIXED IT!
No need for a balance bar or some such to adjust the relative braking pressure; just upgrade the Front Pads to EBC Sintered!
We did that, while leaving the STOCK rear pads in, and it is now PERFECT! No premature rear brake lock-up and it stops MUCH QUICKER.
Try it, you'll LOVE it!

Don't like sintered for general use (have them on the Supermoto - which is true point and squirt!) need a fait bit of heat to work - so not all that round town, specially in the wet - EBC Organics for the scoot (used to use the Veshra Greens on my small capacity bikes) - may try the new EBC Carbons next now on twin disk 400...

I have gone through Two sets of organics, then HH sintered, then carbon, now I am back to Organics because they are better on my MK3 and seem to last the longest.

Well - Personally I've never had the slightest hint of a rear lock up on my mk4 (not that I've tried). Maybe its a matter of technique rather than technology. I did a i2i riding course a little while back, and they encouraged using just two fingers on the brake levers to avoid fierce grabs at the brakes at times of panic, which now feels very natural

With our Tmaxes, my brother and I both have aftermarket smaller brake handles, which fit two-finger braking perfectly.

I don't want to ride something where I have to "Grab a handful of brakes" to get it to stop in a tight situation. I'd rather have 110% of the brakes I'll EVER need on tap at all times.

I love the feel which you get with organic pads but they tend not to last very long (4 me) . The EBC HH i fitted this time around on the srv have performed great in all conditions and have lasted twice as long as the organic ,but do lack that great feel of the organic pad IMHO . I agree with the 2 finger braking ,but on the srv i tend to use a 2 front 3 rear due to the weakness of the rear needing a little extra effort to have a more balanced braking , just as Skuttor has achieved by pad mixing . Pads are like tyres its a personal choice .
