I recently fitted a new exhaust. I also replaced the O2 sensor. Since fitting though the scoot runs "lumpy" (only way I can describe it) at low speed, really noticeable around town, 20-30mph.
It idles ok and runs fine at high speed.
The exhaust did not come with a gasket for the manifold join, it was a pattern (gianelli). I'm wondering if it should have had one and slight leak at that point is confusing the sensor?
Stibbs, was it an OEM exhaust or an aftermarket/pattern make? A leak at the gasket, this will need to be rectified of course, and it could and probably is the problem as it will interfere with the gases in the exhaust and send a false reading to the ecu concerning fuelling. Is it the gasket where your exhaust joins the front pipe that is leaking? or the one in the exhaust outlet at the cylinder head? Your issue could be, if it's an aftermarket silencer the back pressure may be different from the standard Suzuki unit and you may need some tweaking of the ecu ignition and fuel injection map. This can be done by any good tuning firm or even a Suzuki dealer who can flash the ecu with a suitable map. It may be the exhaust manufacturers have a map available if it's the aftermarket exhaust you went for. There are other tuning solutions too such as a PC3 tuning box which comes with different maps. I think there is one available for the Burgman but don't quote me on that. Ultimately, what is a suitable map? You may only find out by a proper dyno run to accertain output, and gas readings throughout the rev range. I don't know where you hail from but I may be able to help you with that if you are in the North Essex area if I can get some free dyno time. Hopefully, you won't need any of that and it is just the gasket leak.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!
Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...
Many thanks for that helpful response Data.
To be honest I'm no tech wizard so don't understand all of your answer. It's a pattern exhaust, gianelli, and it's all in one. It fitted direct to the manifold. I replaced the O2 sensor as the old one looked worn.
I didn't fit a gasket though!
I actually live in East Suffolk so am close to you?
